Snake Invert Bigspin

story behind the piece

In 2012, I was shooting a lot of 35mm film. Uniquely, I didn’t have a lightmeter and my in-camer meter was broken. I’d carry around with me a piece of paper for suggested exposure settings based on whether or not there were clouds, afternoon, golden hour, etc.

Summer of 2012 I was shooting my friends skateboarding a lot. Here, at the Lenny Lamb Day contest; a contest dedicated to a young kid Lenny and his father who passed away in a motorcycle accident, our friend Snake (Eddie Henriquez) always threw down heavy tricks. This was one of his signature tricks very few people could do.

It was slightly overcast, my camera was loaded with tri-x, and had may exposure sheet handy with a fisheye lens on the camera. I believe I shot two frames of this trick and this one was the keeper.

Years later it would turn into this drawing.
